The installation is based on thoughts about the most original form of the material - the lump or chunk. Large chunks of stone are found in nature at the foot of mountains or blasted out in quarries. As pristine as these forms may appear, they are the result of transformation processes - whether by man or erosion by wind and water. The ceramic works Seismic Friction are the attempt to reproduce these forms by hand. The result is objects whose effect oscillates between artificial and natural, making it difficult for the viewer to locate them in the continuum between natural and artificial.
